WITHOUT URGENT ACTION, WE MAY NOT GET OUR NEW FACILITY!

Hi Club members, community, and friends,

Please see attached for the presentation from Sunday’s building meeting.

You would be aware for several years the club, your club, has been working hard to secure a new facility and in the process provide a genuine community asset. On the 28th of June, our proposal is being voted on by the council.

At this point in time, we do not believe we have the majority support of all councilors.

Many of you would think that securing a significant state government commitment means the new building is a DONE DEAL. Unfortunately, it isn’t. We still need to convince the majority of councilors this new facility will be good for the club, the council and the surrounding communities.

It is unfortunate some of the councilors possibly believe SSLSC is just another sporting club and therefore doesn’t deserve funding from the council. They don’t acknowledge the benefits the club brings to the wider community, beyond its membership base.

This is why WE NEED YOU AND YOUR SUPPORT at tonight’s Joondalup Council Briefing Session (Tues 14 June 6.30pm at Council Chambers) where the options for our club’s redevelopment will be discussed.

The club building committee has organised deputations for the briefing session outlining the importance of a new facility and why option 3 is the club’s preference. We need club members to attend the session to show support to the Councillors for the clubs preferred outcome.

Please come and join us to show the Council what the Club means to us all and to the community that we protect and patrol. Please come in your patrol uniform if you have one or in Sorrento colours, so they can see us in BIG numbers.

VENUE: THE COUNCIL CHAMBER, JOONDALUP CIVIC CENTRE, BOAS AVENUE, JOONDALUP

We need to communicate to the Council that our club is more than a sporting group, it is a community of patrolling members, a facility for the broader community, and a venue that will bring better community services, safety and amenities to Sorrento for everyone to use.

We are committed to making this happen for our community and our members and hope to see you all there.

Please share with your friends, on local community pages and through your networks. Let’s bring our Sorrento Spirit to the Council and show our support for a better Club future.

On Tuesday 28th of June at 7pm the Council Meeting where our proposal will be voted on will be held. We need the majority of the councilors (7 of 13) to vote in favour.

As mentioned, at this point in time, we do not believe we have the majority support of all councilors.

That is why, prior to the meeting, we need the individual members to understand the importance of this facility to the community.

We NEED YOU TO contact Councillors to express support –
- Email your local Ward Councillor noting your support for the club’s redevelopment.
- Be polite but passionate!
- Write about your involvement and the clubs value to the community!
- Note Option 3 as the preferred club option.
- Email one or all of the Councillors (details below)
- Get your family & friends to do the same.
