2018 Rescue and Resuscitation and Belt State Championships

13 Mar 2018 by Sorrento Surf Lifesaving Club

Well done to all the teams who competed in the Championships last weekend, with an outstanding result for Sorrento SLSC being the 2018 winners for this event.

What an awesome day and as usual the Sorrento contingent where leading from the front with the most amount of competitors, it was disappointing for our U17, U19 and Open Men who due to the lack of entries had no competition on the day, but with Darryl’s “Never say die” attitude he threw together another mixed team and a 6 person so that some of the teams could still compete, and as it turns out with success.
.
Results for the day
U11’s 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 7th, a phenomenal effort in the fact less than 2 points separated 1st to 4th. An amazing achievement from our white cap kids and shows how hard they train.
U13’s 1st & 4th, 2 in a row for Bridget and Sophie, an amazing effort with a run through of 2.5.
U15’s mixed 5 Person 2nd, an awesome effort with some of the kids being in their first year of surf club
Open Women’s 5 Person 1st & 2nd, the first time that the U19 have beaten the opens but by the slimmest of margins, 0.01! in horse race that’d be by a nose hair!
Open Mixed 5 Person 1st & 2nd
Open Mixed 6 Person 1st & 2nd

A phenomenal effort by Elise Airey, who was the only Sorrento athlete to compete in the belt races this year; she swam in 4 events having to drag 100m’s of line out to the cans and only get dragged back twice.

U17 Female Surf Belt Race 4th
Open Female Surf Belt Race 5th

The focus now is to fine tune these skills at the workshop on 7 & 8 April and then to focus on Aussies with our Nippers to fly the flag in Marchpast next week!

Finally, a big thank you, to our coaches Darryl “Supercoach” O’Donnell (Senior’s Coach) and Theresa & Darby Gartlan (Nipper’s Coaches) who without our teams and the support of the Nipper parents would not have had the success they have enjoyed over the last couple of years. We appreciate and acknowledge your sacrifice and dedication to the event! Once again, to Muzz and his crew for setting up and packing up as well as competing on the day. To all the officials, who ran the carnival, THANK YOU, and to Darryl who supplied the officials with a little sumthin, sumthin, but at least no frozen chickens this year ;)
